Alcyone profile

Alcyone is one of Zagato's followers and probably the only real villain of the 1st series. Her outfit undergoes many changes during the anime, but it's basically a tiny dark reddish leather suit, a pair of long boots and a piece of armor skillfully wrought of the same color. She has a long double layered mantle pinned both around her shoulders and waist and wears matching round earrings with the jewel embedded oh her forehead. Her head is encircled by a light half ring whose ends fade in a pair of wing-like ornaments. Elbow leather gloves and a long ward complete the picture of her outer look. A cascade of superb, waved raven hair shines loose all along her back. Alcyone is a sorceress who mainly uses spells from the ice element in her attacks, but although she always tries to do her best she is no trouble for experienced opponents. She can summon seijyuus, like flying horses and double headed wolves.

She was a former pupil of Clef and she was assigned by this latter to the court as magician in order to help Emeraude when needed. She practically was a servant of the princess and at that time she had the opportunity to get in touch with Zagato, the Princess' High priest. Alcyone started to harbor some feelings for him, which eventually turned into a secret one sided love....No wonder she followed him when he kidnapped Princess Emeraude although she knew it was wrong. She decided to side with the evil priest because she had a huge crush on him and he was the man she would have done anything for even if he didn't return her feelings at all. Her magic was taught by Clef, but she actually lacks skill and she is the first person Zagato sent out to destroy the Knights. Alcyone delights in the thought of using her magic to cause pain on those who would dare to disobey Zagato and especially seems to relish tormenting Hikaru, Umi and Fuu. She appears in all the seasons (including OAV), anyway she has little roles...in the 1st season she was the first who fought against the girls seeking their deaths. She nearly managed, but lost to Hikaru for the first time because she didn't expect her to know magic already. Alcyone loves underestimating her enemies, and albeit she was sent later again a few more times, she failed miserably.

She didn't know at first the real reason behind Zagato's actions, she thought that all he wanted was power over Cephiro. When she learned about the forbidden love he and the princess shared she desperately confessed him her love, telling that all she did and does is for Zagato. At least, that is what she believes, but he didn't think so: he wanted her to fight according to her own will, not for him. He harshly replied he now finds her really pitiful and worthless. In the manga she was killed by the high priest himself after her nth failure, while in the anime, after Zagato's lecture, she disappeared (the director saved her just to create a useless toy for Debonair ^^). Alcyone returns during the second season under Debonair's control. After Clef broke the spell she stayed in the castle mourning all the time the death of her beloved man, crying over her own empty and pathetic life. At the end, drowning in grief, she dies after revealing Debonair's lair to the Knights. Alcyone is practically the only character who doesn't change at all during the story, she refuses any friendly attempt of the Knights to help her out from an ultimate downfall. She stubbornly goes on in the path of self annihilation she chose and gets exploited by the main villain in charge, only to be discarded when no more needed. She looks relatively young, but she is much older than the girls. Yet she hates being called old... but she acts so old!

Alcyone served Zagato because she loved him. A powerful sorceress, her magical abilities are second only to Clef's-- in fact she trained under Clef until just before she joined up with Zagato. Like Clef, she has the power to summon spirit beasts.
