Lantis is Zagato's younger brother and the best magic swordsman in Cephiro. He was assigned to be princess Emerode's bodyguard by Clef and he fulfilled his duties as her protector until the day he mysteriously vanished from the planet. Even though he's not a very sociable and straightforward person he deeply cares for his unfortunate brother and princess, hence he decided to left after Zagato confessed his feelings for her. He hit many places during his wandering, but Autozam was the planet where he spent most of his time before finally returning back to witness Cephiro's crisis.
Lantis wears a black wrought armor with a wide light blue mantle hanging loose from the shoulders for his whole length. Two black pieces of cloth, pinned under a white belt, frame both his waist sides until the ankles. His undergarments are a simple pair of black pants and a high collar long sleeved shirt of the same color. Lantis wears a light golden ring around his head, and pale blue jewels on the armor create a decorative pattern all along his shoulder and chest. He also has matching protectors for both his lower legs and arms. Lantis is really tall, strong built and utterly good looking. His physical appearance is very different from Eagle's: he's handsome and perfectly proportioned, but his beauty is unmistakably masculine. He really looks somehow intimidating yet gorgeous with his short raven hair over a pair of piercing azure eyes, framing his usually expressionless face. Being the strongest Kailu of Cephiro he can use a magic sword which is, in the anime, one of the three keys able to unlock the Crown's room door. Lantis can also use magic alone or combined with his sword attacks, and he uses spells like Kakuen Boujo (Cresta), Inazuma Shourai (Sandasu) or Seijyuu Shoukan (Clefto), all of very high level. He can summon seijyuus too, like a flying horse.

Lantis loves his planet from the core, and his feelings are the ultimate source of all his actions. He swears to himself not to let the same tragedy happen again. He suffered for the loss of his brother and princess and probably cursed his impotence in front of those events. He felt there could not have been a happy ending for his brother's love story with the princess. Mainly due to the radical difference of opinion the brothers held regarding Cephiro and what this forbidden love meant for the planet sake, Lantis preferred to left not to face the bitter reality. When he returned he was an utterly silent, icy expressionless person. He hates the pillar system Cephiro uses with all his heart because he noticed that the tragedy happened to his brothers was just a natural consequence of how the system runs; this would potentially repeat itself again and again with new pillars. He gets back in order to end the legend of Magic Knights, to wipe it away along with the pillar system and its inhuman rules, with his own hands. He's ready to fight alone, against everything, everyone, friendship, love. Or maybe it's love what stopped him....later events will change his goal, because someone will be able to melt the ice in his heart little by little, giving him new hope and new reasons to live, making him understand the true power of feelings and will.
Apparently, Lantis knows Eagle. They have been good friends until he went back to Cephiro after Princess Emeraude had passed away along with his brother. Once learning about the end of their unlucky love story he got determined to destroy Pillar's system and Magic Knights' legend. Because of his decision he had to fight against his best friend Eagle, who, on the contrary, wanted to become the new pillar. Moved by different feelings and beliefs, one for revenge, one for his planet's sake and own self satisfaction, they decided to fight to achieve their aims no matter the cost. They actually never stopped to respect each other even when they took opposite sides of battle…fortunately at the end their friendship overcame, mainly thanks to Hikaru's doing and feelings, which shown them both a new way to live.

Lantis may look mysterious, emblematic and gloomy at first sight, but he's also an interesting and kind guy who managed to gain Hikaru's trust in a heartbeat. He's the typical character who draws a lot of attention just by breathing and he actually plays a big role in the series along with Eagle...what he's thinking about is very difficult to understand, maybe because of his expressionless face, and his intense, piercing gaze. Since the beginning many people don't trust him, they think he's a spy of Autozam, and they don't try to know him better as Hikaru did. The little girl realizes at once he was actually lonely and sad under his mask of indifference. Primera, the fairy who follows Lantis everywhere, is deeply in love with him, or so she thinks, and it may seem she gets him all for herself, but Lantis never showed any affection towards her. Perhaps he had kept his mind focused on his mission to end the pillar system that he didn't allow any of his feelings to show. However, when he met Hikaru, her innocent heart seemed to have opened up his feelings, much to the frustration of his fairy. Little by little, they fall in love with each other even if the inexperienced girl doesn't realize it. During all the season there's a development of their feelings, and also of Hikaru's doubts and fears, while the appearance of Eagle and in particular Nova's existence complicate a bit the situation. Lantis was captured by the enemy in the anime because he didn't want to hurt Hikaru, but Eagle saved his life sacrificing his own, and this way, he saved the love between his friends. At the end of anime last battle they confess their love to each other, but in the manga he asks Hikaru with whom she wants to get married, and she answers with both Eagle and Lantis!

Sol Zagato's younger brother. As Kailu, it was Lantis' duty to protect Emerode, but after seeing the looming tragedy surrounding her and his brother, he left Cephiro to stay in Autozam. He was Clef's most gifted student in the magic arts and is more powerful than even a Dal. His voice is much like his brother's, but their personalities are quite different. A private man, he kept his plans a secret until the very end. He shares a special bond with Eagle Vision of Autozam.

Lantis is a Mazda sedan. Class between 323 and 626. "Mazda Lantis" is sold in Europe as the 5-door version of the 323
(it's known in the US as the Mazda Protégé).
He has the title of Kailu, which means "Magic Swordsman".
